The SEVIER COUNTY EXTENSION SERVICE, currently located on the second floor of the Sevier County courthouse, will soon be moving to the new Ag facility on the CCCUA campus in De Queen. Earliest records indicate that the County Extension Service has been operating in De Queen and Sevier County since 1907, when they shared an agent with four other counties.
The extension service, a division of the University of Arkansas’ Division of Agriculture, offers advice on agriculture, nutrition, health, fitness and family life, community development and 4-H with research-based information and training close to home.

Since that time, the program has expanded several times and now includes the Arkansas counties of Little River, Howard, Sevier, and Pike. CASA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide trained volunteer advocates for abused or neglected children involved in Northeast, TX and Southwest, AR legal systems. Owners Barbara Norton and Marilyn Murphy have owned Curves since 2008 and have made the gym into a place where women can come, bring a friend, tone muscles, lose weight, play games, receive tips on dieting and exercise, and just have fun. Co-owner Barbara says Curves sets itself apart from other gyms through its specially-tuned workout for women. Suttle Equipment Company was established in 1970 by Gene & Lee Suttle. Doug has been in charge since 1980. Suttle’s is the only source for forestry equipment sales and service in a 50 mile radius. They have five mechanics on staff in addition to a machinist and a full time welder--to total over 150 years of shop experience. Suttle Equipment employs 25 people at their De Queen Location and they cover half the state of Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and northeast Texas along the timber belt. They are open from 7 am to 5 pm Monday thru Friday and 8 to 12 Saturday. Field service is available. Even though their service is not something you may need personally, as an employer of 25 people, they have a huge economic impact on our county. The De Queen Bee newspaper was established on June 4, 1897, by Walter A. Boyd, a printer, and J. W. Bishop, a lawyer from Nashville. After several owners during the 20th century, the Kimball heirs sold the De Queen Bee Company to Lancaster Corporation, of Gadsden, Ala. in 2007.
