THE DE QUEEN LIONS CLUB celebrated its 61st anniversary last year. Since the club's chartering in 1950, its members have worked on a wide variety of community service projects involving Lions International's many sight projects as well as local endeavors to provide eyeglasses and scholarships to local children in need.

Over the years the De Queen Lions Club has had a tremendous impact in the area, but it all started one day in 1950 when an enterprising and young group of men saw an unmet need in the community and decided to address it. Counting the last 20 years alone, the club has purchased over $30,000 in eyeglasses for local children and handed out another $30,000 in local scholarships. The club has collected over 1,500 pounds of eyeglasses - or about 5,000 pairs - in just the last decade.

The club currently consists of 35 active members and meets each Tuesday at noon at Fat Chances Buffet in De Queen. Pictured from left to right are 2011-2012 De Queen Lions Club Board Members Julia Moore, Bruce Hill, Jeff Holcombe and Noel Bard. For membership info, contact Noel Bard
