De Queen

DE QUEEN COURTYARD INN located on Highway 71 North is one of the area’s few motels. Uri Patel and her family have owned the De Queen Courtyard Inn for six years and employ two people as well as some extra help.

The Courtyard Inn provides free HBO and wireless internet, a pool, microfridge, clean beds and a discount for AARP members. “Customers like to stay here because of the friendly service and clean rooms, and because we have good rates,” said Uri. “We try to be the best.” Call the De Queen Courtyard Inn at (870) 642-2034.

Anything Grows
348 Hwy 71 North
De Queen

ANYTHINGGROWSnorth of De Queen is one of the area’s premier retailers of plants and other outdoor decorations.

When Anything Grows opened in 1999, owner Terri Hunt operated only a greenhouse. Since then, she has added new buildings, including a new 3,000 square foot building last year, and a lot of new merchandise. Anything Grows carries a wide variety of landscaping material, quality mailboxes, plants, seeds, outside decor and gardening supplies, most of which is 100 percent eco-friendly. Terri said product variety and knowledgeable employees separate her from other businesses in the industry. “Variety is what we’re all about,” she said. “We want customers to come in and find things they didn’t expect to find.”

Anything Grows is located on Highway 71 just north of the De Queen city limits. Come in anytime between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Pictured above, from left to right, are Martin Gonzalez, Chris Shaver, Laura Sanchez, Terri Hunt and Humberto Delgado. Give them a call at (870) 642-3626.

Dial 2-1-1 for Information and Referrals

Arkansas has become the 17th state to offer a statewide information and referral system – the 211 system.

The free, easy to remember number connects residents with important community services and volunteer opportunities.  Examples of services offered by 2-1-1 include:  basic human needs such as food banks, clothing closets, shelters, and rent and utility assistance, physical and mental health resources such as Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health, ArKids First, crisis intervention services, support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention and rehabilitation, employment support including financial assistance, job training, transportation and education programs.

Arkansas 2-1-1 will be managed by the United Ways of Arkansas Board of Directors and funded through local United Way contributions, foundation grants and private donations.  The Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Foundation provided the seed money for the system.
