Ball Party Blast hosted by De Queen Parks and Recreation and
the Chamber prior to the fireworks on Thursday, July 3rd.

The
event was a hit! Many parents commented that this was
an excellent idea and you can tell by the expression on the
kids faces that they were happy.

TRI-LAKES
BIG BASS TOURNAMENT MAY 24th

Over
300 anglers participated in the 19th Annual
Tri-Lakes Big Bass Festival held on
De
Queen, Dierks and Gillham lakes on May 24th.
More than $11,000 in cash and door prizes were
awarded to area anglers.
Sam
Frost of Mena took the grand prize of $1500 with a 6.33
pound bass caught on De Queen Lake.
Brayden Kirby of Dierks, age 8, was the youngest
winning angler, hooking a 5th place fish on De
Queen Lake.
The
tournament is hosted annually by the De Queen/Sevier County
Chamber of Commerce and its’ partner, Cossatot Community
College of the University of Arkansas.

Arkansas
has become the 17th state to offer a statewide
information and referral system – the 211 system.
The
free, easy to remember number connects residents with
important community services and volunteer opportunities.
Examples of services offered by 2-1-1 include:
basic human needs such as food banks, clothing
closets, shelters, and rent and utility assistance, physical
and mental health resources such as Medicaid and Medicare,
maternal health, ArKids First, crisis intervention services,
support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention
and rehabilitation, employment support including financial
assistance, job training, transportation and education
programs.
Arkansas
2-1-1 will be managed by the United Ways of Arkansas Board
of Directors and funded through local United Way
contributions, foundation grants and private donations.
The Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club Foundation provided the
seed money for the system.
